It is definitely a common concern that the implant feels “foreign” or strange after the mastectomy and reconstruction. However, some sensation can return since nerves can regenerate in this region. Having an immediate reconstruction has been found to help with the return of sensation to the breast. Rest assured that the “weird” sensation will gradually improve with time, and it is not unusual to take more than one year.
