Is there a need for imaging surveillance after mastectomy & breast reconstruction?

This is an excellent question! I was tasked by Cancer Care Ontario with being the Clinical Lead of a Working Group a few years ago to develop standardized provincial guidelines for post mastectomy breast reconstruction a few years ago and we examined this very question in detail. Scientific evidence suggests that mastectomy removes over 90-95% of the breast tissue; there is no role for any imaging surveillance after mastectomy with or without reconstruction.
